Sarah's Cafe Staff

Hi, my name is Bruce Killian and this is who I am. I was born and raised in a town called Penn Yan which is in The Finger Lakes of western New York State. I'm a graduate of Coastal Carolina Universty with a degree in Accounting.  I come to you as a man who has been in the restaurant business for the last 19 years. I began in corporate restaurants at the age of 22 with Spinnaker's as well as The Cooker Bar and Grill. By the age of 24, I was a General Manager for Spinnaker's and have been one ever since. I did take a break from corporate restaurants at the age of 29 going to work for a dear friend of mine in North Carolina for 3 years. I then came to Florida and helped Gecko's Bar and Grill open one of their restaurants in Bradenton on St. Rd. 64 and ran the one on St. Rd. 70 for a couple years. I took a couple years off from the restaurant business in 2005, but God brought me back in late 2007 to serve His children. My most recent job was with Casa diPizza where I spent 3 plus years there. It was there that I truly realized what my ministry is. It us to serve God's children with vigor, respect and encouragement. Because of this I am affectionately known as The Pizza Pastor. What an honor it is to be known as that. Read More Here!

Many people ask me why I chose Culinary Arts as my main occupation.  I have had a love for food and young people as long as I can remember.  I grew up in Sarasota, and at fourteen, I felt God gave me a passion for youth ministry.  This led me to attended Johnson Bible College in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Bible Theology.  At that time, cooking was just a hobby.  After a few years, God showed me that I could pursue the two greatest passions of my heart at the same time.  I decided that Johnson and Whales Culinary University in Miami (one of the top culinary schools in the country) was where I was being called to fulfill the other passion.  I used my training from Bible college to become a special education teacher in Miami and worked my way through culinary school.  So the question remains, why is a former youth pastor now a classically trained gourmet chef?  ….the simple answer is you.  There is no greater satisfaction than seeing someone enjoy what God allowed me to create for your pleasure!  The philosophy is simple… create a unique dining experience that surprises, and captivates the audience, expands their culinary horizons, and their passion for food!  In addition, while you are enjoying your meal, we will be in the kitchen professionally and spiritually influencing  young people we have the privilege of working with at Sarah’s Café at the Nightlife Center.  The best of both worlds, and the fulfillment of my two passions!  I believe God gave us a platform in food that has limitless creativity, one of the greatest examples of how we are made in His image.  These are the reasons I love culinary arts… passion for creating,  bringing great dining pleasure to you the customer, and impacting the young people in our community!  I look forward to meeting… and surprising… all of you!

Lorraine comes from a diverse background of restaurant experience ranging from casual to fine dining.  At the age of 12 she began helping her father, Chef Fran, with the family owned business and continued on with him through the years.  When she ventured off on her own at 16 there was no stopping her, she quickly learned the restaurant way and worked hard at all she did.  Starting of as the Lead Hostess at LongHorn SteakHouse she than expanded her skills to Head Expeditor and at 18 started serving.  She has worked at some of the highest volume restaurants in Sarasota, including Sarasota Ale House,  Sam Seltzers, Patricks and Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar where she also first tried her hand in management at 22 years old.  Lorraine’s hard work ethic and diversity of skills have been and continue to be a strong asset anywhere she goes.

Lorraine joined our team in September of 2010 with a strong passion to use her skills and experience, not only in business but also on a personal level. She has overcome many obstacles and has a strong desire to help those struggling to find purpose, meaning and direction in their lives. God continues to work in her and through her to achieve this both in her life and the lives of others.
